Introducing our staff members

Practice Principal

CHRISTINE O'FLAHERTY graduated with B App Sci (Physiotherapy) in 1977 at Lincoln Institute (University of Melbourne). After gaining 3 years of clinical experience and promotion at Bartholomews Hospital in London, she established this clinic in 1980. Over the years the clinic has continually developed and has been staffed by excellent physiotherapists. The current team continue their professional development, especially in manual therapy and core stability training. We were among the first practices to achieve accreditation with our professional body (OCPPP Physiofirst).

Practice Manager

TANIA ELLIS took over the day to day running of the clinic in February 2005 after gaining several years of experience of management in a Harley Street clinic. Her experience and tireless efforts on behalf of patients and the smooth running of the practice is invaluable. She liaises with the health insurance companies on behalf of patients, with their cooperation.

Physiotherapists

SIMON HOWARD graduated from the University of East London in 1997. He gained invaluable experience during four years at the Royal Free Hospital and is now the longest serving physiotherapist at this clinic having been based here since summer 2002. He played semi-professional basketball at Crystal Palace which enhances his special interest in sports injuries and musculo-skeletal rehabilitation. He practices manual therapy and core stability training for spinal dysfunction and also uses acupuncture as an occasional ancillary treatment. He like the others undertakes many post graduate courses which underpin his skills in clinical practice

SOPHIE COOKE
- graduated from Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and is registered with the Health Professions Council and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. Since graduating, Sophie has worked in private practice, specialising in musculoskeletal, spinal and sports injuries. She also holds a postgraduate certificate in clinical Pilates from Dance Medicine Australia which is very effective in the treatment of back pain and postural problems. Sophie has worked with premier grade rugby clubs, swimmers and ballet dancers up to an elite level and also has experience in women’s health, in particular, pelvic floor retraining and postnatal return to sport programs. Musculoskeletal and sporting injuries are of particular interest to Sophie. She employs a wide variety of manual therapy techniques as well as a specific, personalised approach to rehabilitation and clinical Pilates.

PETER MURTAGH - qualified as a physiotherapist in 2001 from the University of Hertfordshire and has latterly gone on to do an MSc in advanced physiotherapy at Kings College London as well as qualifying to be a MACP member (an association for physiotherapists that have reached standards of excellence). He has worked as a senior physiotherapist within the NHS for 6 years and in the private sector for over 4 years as well as with Arsenal football club. Peter has extensive experience in dealing with neck and back pain, sports injuries, muscle imbalance problems, stiff and painful joints, rehabilitation post surgery and long standing chronic painful conditions. Peter uses an array of treatment techniques and has excellent manual therapy skills as well as being qualified to do acupuncture. Peter has both a very holistic and analytical approach to understanding and treating the client’s presenting problem.  As well as directly treating the current symptoms Peter always aims to identify the causal factors underlying the problem and therefore prevent re injury. He also regards informing the patient as fully as possible re their condition as an essential element of treatment.

NICK GRIMWOOD
- qualified from St Marys Hospital, Paddington in 1993 then spent 7 years working for the NHS at University College London Hospital before spending a year providing physiotherapy for the Saudi Royal family in Rhyad and Casablanca. On his return, he joined a Harley Street Practice for 12 years giving treatment to patients with spinal injuries and people needing post-surgical rehabilitation. After gaining his Masters in sports rehabilitation, he worked for the Great British Judo team and Blackheath Rugby club. Nick prides himself on his analytical ‘problem-solving’approach to physiotherapy. Along with treating the problem at hand with manual therapy, he will also search for the causes to the problem and will provide advice, movement correction and exercises to prevent re-occurance. This is especially useful with recurring spinal or sports injuries.

ANBREEN KHAN MSc MCSP SRP
. Anbreen lectures at Brunei University three days a week (neurology to physiotherapy students) and has two spare days. She can offer treatment that will address some of the neurological problems with which the ageing population in the Barbican and nearby are likely to need help, such as returning home after a stroke. She will be able to treat patients here at the clinic (though there are stairs here) and also by domiciliary visits, when mobility is a greater problem for the patient. Offering neurological rehabilitation is a new area for us, and Anbreen is a great asset.

ROBERTO COLOMBINI
qualified from the University of East London in 1998 and went straight to work in the NHS where he developed a special interest in back pain and spinal dysfunction. From 2001 Roberto worked in the private and public sector until he joined the Clinic in October of 2004. He has developed a wide variety of skills in all aspects of manual therapy, acupuncture and especially in the area of core stability re-training in which he has completed many post-graduate courses. His treatment philosophy is based on treating symptoms from their root cause taking into account the body as a whole and its bio-mechanics. Robertos' success in treating sports injuries is mirrored by his own keen pursuit of sporting activities, ranging from martial arts and yoga, to golf, tennis and football.

( Roberto is currently on a travelling sabbatical )
